First I would create a seperate directory for this process. mkdir /update. Then cd /update. Now you should be sitting in the update directory.

Second you need the rpm's that will update your system. You can download these all at once. Use this command to download all the rpm's. wget -c --passive-ftp ftp://updates.redhat.com/8.0/en/os/i386/*.*

Note this will download all the rpm's for Red Hat 8.0. If your using a different version of RedHat then subsitute that version number where 8.0 is in the command above. For example isf your running 7.3 the command will be wget -c --passive-ftp ftp://updates.redhat.com/7.3/en/os/i386/*.*

Another note this is for the intel plateform.

Last type rpm -Fvh *

To clean up your system from the rpm's type rm -Rf /update

This will take some time depending on how many rpm's have been downloaded so get a snack and check back.
